BRINGING YOU THE BEST IN ROMANCE FICTION

The End of the Year and A Reminder to Be of Good Cheer

There’s something about the holidays that brings out romance. Christmas romances abound on the Hallmark Channel and bookstore shelves. This time of year, we love to celebrate family, home, and warm hearts. The holidays are a time to gather together, set aside the burdens of the year, and embrace new opportunities coming ripe with the New Year.

Many people will be happy to see the back side of 2016 and hope for a grander, more satisfying, embraceable 2017. From politics to celebrity death, I’m hearing friends on social media and around the dinner table heave a big sigh and cross their fingers that the future is brighter than the present. Don’t we wake up every morning just hoping that our day will surprise and delight us? Adding a little bit of romance into the mix, even if it’s just a really good tale of cute meetings and hearts recognizing some similarity between them, can be enough to give us the pep and vigor to face another day. However we find it, we need hope in our lives.

I spent this week writing, and I added in those sprinklings of humor and quick witted dialogue intended to make the reader smile. Though winter months can be dark, we have ways to brighten our time together and it’s important to remember that humor is one of the best antidotes.

What I’ve been writing is some of the sweetest, happiest characters. Good for them. I hope for more of the same for all of us.

About Lela Bay

Lela lives in a modest house in a modest town with her husband, children, and pets. Despite living so far north, she requires a certain amount of sunshine each day or she gets grumpy. Music has always been a large part of her life, and she owns a ridiculous number of instruments, though these days she mostly plays Rock Band. Lela’s favorite romance authors include Laura Kinsale, Jennifer Cruise, and Jane Austen. She enjoys stories with intimacy and humor. Favorite movies include Overboard, All of Me, North & South, Pride and Prejudice (miniseries with Colin Firth, please), The Princess Bride, and While You Were Sleeping.
